Hello and welcome!
I’m Tanya and I have recently retired from running a traditional English tea rooms. We made all our own scones, cakes, tea cakes and desserts ourselves. So I have done lots of baking!
I made anything up to 100 scones per day which is why I called this blog Scones Plus More.
My parents came from Northern Ireland and as a child I spent many happy holidays there. I remember fondly the fresh scones my grandmother made for breakfast on her old fashioned solid fuel range. My love of baking dates from then.

My mother also loved baking and passed on many traditional skills and recipes. I hope I am doing the same for my daughter and grandchildren. I feel it would be a tragedy if we let our baking traditions die out and I am on a bit of a crusade to keep traditional recipes alive!
As well as traditional recipes I like to use traditional ingredients. So butter not ultra processed margarines; lard not palm oil; stoneground flour when possible and cold pressed oils. I also love to use ingredients from small producers using traditional methods.
Now I am retired I am also hoping to have time to indulge my other hobby – quilting! Bertie is also hoping for more and longer walks! Bertie is my schnauzer/poodle/Jack Russell dog. He is my constant companion and delighted recipient of any misshaped scones!
Happy baking!
Tanya
